Dr. Len Fleck, faculty director for the Medical Ethics and Health Policy in London program, wrote an interesting piece for the Center for Ethics Bioethics Blog that highlights the amazing connection between his program content and the Charlie Gard case while in the UK this summer. The situation directly related to the ethics, genetics, and policy issues addressed in the program. Students were very engaged knowing this was happening just a few blocks away from them.

VIPP provided a professional development workshop for 14 college advisors and counsellors from four universities in China. For the seventeen-day long program from June 25 to July 12, participants learned about student affairs practices in U.S. higher education system as well as MSU's comprehensive services for students including housing, college admission, academic support, counseling and career service.

Africa's global political and economic impact, and young Africans' share of the labor force, are both going to increase in the next 20 years. But, more than half of Africa's unemployed and underemployed population are youth. Research by Michigan State University, in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, examines the potential for African agrifood systems to provide employment opportunities for Africa's youth, focusing on Tanzania, Rwanda and Nigeria.

Three African youth have been selected as the winners of an essay contest co-hosted by MSU's Alliance for African Partnership and Youth Empowerment Programs. The essay contest, titled "Working Together to Create the Africa We Want," invited African citizens between the ages of 15-24, to describe their desired future for Africa and the role of youth in that future.

VIPP welcomes international students to our 2017 Global Summer School Programs! This summer, VIPP hosts three programs at MSU: Global Enterprise Design, Transportation Engineering, and American Culture and Society. The Global Enterprise Design and Transportation Engineering classes have already begun and our students have been engaged in vigorous academic studies and fun class activities.

39 Scholars (11 Master's and 28 undergraduates) from the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Michigan State University are engaged in research and internships at 41 sites throughout 15 African nations and the United States.


Go Green in Canada! VIPP's first workshop held entirely in Canada was a great success!

This summer, the Visiting International Professional Program (VIPP) at Michigan State University (MSU) pioneered a new program that took place entirely outside the U.S. Dr. Mina Shin, VIPP's Assistant Director, developed a 10-day long workshop in Canada for the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the theme of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Economic Development. Fifteen delegates visited Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Niagara Falls, and Toronto, and met Canadian government officials
