After recognizing a need for the development and assistance of youth in Africa, MSU Mastercard Foundation Scholar alumnus Buhle Mndzebele co-founded the Buhle Capital Foundation. The foundation's focus is to benefit the lives of African youth by focusing on welfare, health, education, and mentorship.

MSU signed a memorandum of understanding with Egerton University at their campus in Njoro, Kenya. The agreement aims to build capacity at the master's and PhD-level in the agricultural sector as well as to inform on the pressing policy issues facing Kenya.
