Daryl and Glenda Minor Tanzania Fellowship

The application period for the 2020-21 Daryl and Glenda Minor Tanzania Fellowship has closed. The application period for the 2021-22 fellowship will open in Fall 2020.

Fellowship Description

The Daryl and Glenda Minor Tanzania Fellowship will support a first-time two-year master’s degree program for an entering Michigan State University student from Tanzania with interests in a field related to international development. The Minor Fellow will be committed to working towards understanding and contributing to inclusive social and economic development in Tanzania. Individuals with an interest in furthering girls’ education and economic opportunities for women are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Daryl and Glenda Minor Tanzania Fellowship will provide the following:

  1. A two-year commitment for a first-time master’s degree student who holds a bachelor’s degree from a Tanzanian university.

  2. A ten hour per week graduate assistantship during fall and spring semesters (includes monthly stipend, health insurance, and tuition waiver for 9 credits per semester during the academic year).

  3. Additional Fellowship funds to cover living expenses.

  4. A summer internship in Tanzania at the end of the first academic year.

The Fellowship awardee must make good progress toward the degree, maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and not seek additional assistantship or employment during their fellowship award.

Note: The ten hour per week graduate assistantship will be in support of MSU’s Tanzania Partnership Program (TPP). Information on TPP can be found at TPP's website. The assistantship will allow the Fellow to gain hands-on experience with an education for development program while working towards the master’s degree.
