TPP worked with the Lindi Rural District government to replace the water lines and reinstall electricity to pump water to Milola Secondary and Milola B.
Ngwenya Pre-Primary and Primary
TPP conducted a census to identify children eligible for pre-primary school. Very few children could attend school because of the 5 km walk from Ngwenya to the closest primary school. Two community elders donated 100 acres of land for a school building, a school farm, and land where families could relocate their homes closer to the school. Ngwenya community members cleared four acres of the land for a preschool and formed a parents' committee.
TPP and TAG Philanthropic Foundation provided funds to construct a pre-primary school in the Milola sub-village of Ngwenya. Construction finished in September.
Classes began at Ngwenya Pre-Primary School with 90 students. A rainwater harvesting system was then installed. The Ngwenya community built a kitchen from local materials for the school feeding program and set aside 15 acres to further develop the school as attendance grows.
A survey was conducted of the full 100 acres of land donated by two Milola elders for future education facilities. TPP contributed ten desks and 164 books to the school.
Community members constructed a two-room temporary classroom while the District builds new classrooms. TPP constructed a school kitchen, installed a fuel efficient stove, and provided new cooking pots that can withstand the high heat of the new stove.
TPP installed new hole latrines. Play360, a US-based NGO, installed a playground. TAG Philanthropic Foundation and TPP funded a duplex home for the teachers at the new primary school in Ngwenya. The house includes a kitchen, living area, latrine, rainwater harvesting system, and solar electricity.
The school's rainwater harvesting gutters and tank were cleaned and repaired.
TPP built four hole latrines, renovated the playground, and constructed two additional primary classrooms and a teacher's office.
